Brazil Unveils Crypto Legislation

Brazil’s federal prosecution office is set to roll out a roadmap of activities that will grant the nation’s prosecutors, courts, and police officers powers to prosecute offenders and confiscate crypto. Ministério Público Federal (MPF), Brazil’s highest prosecution office announced they are formulating provisions to allow for digital asset seizures in an effort to curb crypto-related crimes.

Meeting With Relevant Stakeholders

The MPF held a meeting with members of the Secretariat for Expertise, Research, and Analysis as well as representatives from the National Council of Justice, the Federal Police, and Brazil’s tax agency. They discussed guidelines which law enforcers can use when making these seizures in order to reduce criminal activity involving cryptos such as hacks or pyramid schemes.

Guidelines To Be Sent To Criminal Chamber

The final text of this guideline would be sent to the Criminal Chamber within days according to MPF. The guidelines are meant as an initial step towards regulating cryptocurrencies in Brazil while providing resources for prosecution officials so that they may increase their knowledge on how cryptocurrency works. Training sessions for MPF officials and law enforcement agents are also offered by the prosecution office regarding digital assets.

Importance Of Quick Feedback

MPF also stressed on getting prompt feedback from attendees regarding its guidelines saying it was necessary due to “growing relevance” of cryptocurrencies particularly in legal matters today.

With this new development being rolled out by MPF soon enough Brazilian authorities will have more power over curbing criminal activities related cryptocurrencies as well as seizing digital assets when needed legally doing so by using their new ‘guide’ tackling offenses accordingly through confiscation if need be under these new regulations being adjusted in Brazil soon enough.
